What it is
The MOT checks that a car meets road safety and environmental standards on the day of the test. Plenty of cars fail on items that are quick to put right, such as bulbs, wipers, tyres and warning lights.
A pre-MOT check is a full inspection before the test, so anything that would fail can be found and fixed first rather than after a fail.

What is the difference between a pre-MOT check and an MOT?
The MOT is the official test, carried out by a certified tester, and the result goes on the DVSA record. A pre-MOT check is an inspection beforehand, so problems can be fixed before the test.
