Suspension upgrades and chassis work in Grays

Suspension modifications and chassis work for drivers who want their car to handle and sit the way they want.

What it is

Suspension upgrades change how the car rides, handles and sits. Common modifications include coilovers, lowering springs, uprated anti-roll bars and polyurethane bushes, each changing the balance between comfort, grip and response.

Chassis work goes further, such as bracing and strengthening, and correcting or modifying mounting points. On a modified car, especially one with more power, the chassis has to keep up with the engine.

Setup is as important as the parts. Ride height, damping and alignment all affect each other, and a lowered car with the wrong geometry can handle worse than standard. For worn parts on an everyday car, see our suspension repairs.

When to book it

  • You want your car lower, firmer or sharper to drive
  • More power has made the chassis feel like the weak link
  • You have bought coilovers or other parts and want them fitted and set up
  • A previous modification has left the car riding or handling badly
  • You are building a car and need chassis work as part of it

Questions answered

Do I need wheel alignment after lowering my car?

Yes. Lowering changes the suspension geometry, so alignment needs checking and adjusting afterwards to avoid poor handling and rapid tyre wear.

Coilovers or lowering springs?

Lowering springs are a simpler change to ride height. Coilovers replace the spring and damper and usually allow height and often damping to be adjusted. The right choice depends on how you use the car.

Will lowered suspension make the ride harsh?

It can, depending on the parts and setup. Choosing parts to suit your roads and driving makes a big difference, which is worth talking through before you buy.

Do I need to tell my insurer about suspension modifications?

Yes. Suspension changes, including lowering, are modifications insurers expect to be told about.
