Suspension repairs in Grays

Knocks, clunks and wandering steering traced and fixed, with worn suspension parts replaced at a clearly agreed price.

What it is

Your suspension keeps the tyres in contact with the road and the car stable when braking and cornering. It is made up of springs, shock absorbers, arms, bushes, ball joints and drop links, all of which wear with mileage and rough roads.

Worn parts rarely fail all at once. Instead the car slowly gets noisier, less settled and less precise, which is easy to get used to. Worn suspension also wears tyres faster and can lengthen stopping distances.

This service is about repairing and replacing worn components to get the car riding properly again. Upgrades and chassis modifications are covered under our suspension and chassis major works.

Questions answered

Should shock absorbers be replaced in pairs?

Yes, shocks and springs should be replaced in pairs on the same axle so both sides behave the same. A new part on one side and an old one on the other can make the car unbalanced.

Do I need wheel alignment after suspension work?

Often, yes. Replacing parts like track rod ends, arms or bushes can change the alignment, and incorrect alignment wears tyres quickly. You will be told if your job needs it.

What usually causes a knock over bumps?

Drop links, worn bushes, ball joints and top mounts are common culprits. Because several parts can make similar noises, it needs checking on a ramp to be sure.
